Staff Picks May 3, 2020

We asked our staff to curate a set of songs that we could listen to this week.

Pastor Kyle Recommends:
I was looking for a something to summarize my sermon. I came across this old gospel song-Angel Band. Lots of people have recorded it. The Stanley Brothers (heard in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, Johnny Cash, Cynthia Clawson, and even the Monkees!

BUT then I heard this amazing choir sing the song and immediately fell in love. I have never heard of a Mennonite Choir and this group knocked my socks off. Then I went I watched a concert they did and I am totally hooked.

In the concert is a prayer they sing. Listen to the introduction by the conductor at 39:00 and then the song. It is breathtaking.

Here is the opening line of the song:

My latest sun is sinking fast, My race is nearly run,
My strongest trials now are past, My triumph is begun!

Wade Huggins recommends:

This was such a fun project to put together with such special and talented friends. It will lift your spirit.

Gwen Richardson recommends:

Next week we will be reading Psalm 8 in our Bible Readings. Never will I forget our choir singing this song for the first time at First Baptist Church! I felt God’s glory and majesty fill the room! Listening to this took me back to that time. We are not able to gather there at the moment, but his glory and majesty are still with us no matter where we are! Lord, how majestic is your name!

Connie Thornton recommends:

In the midst of the unknown the human spirit is beautiful and capable of immense greatness.
