The love for missions, both local and foreign, are at the heart of the people of First Baptist Church Athens. FBCA is actively seeking God’s leadership in ministry around the world. Go to the “Serve Your City” section to learn more about the local ministries of FBCA.
The church has sister church relationships and on going work in Latvia, Russia, England, Mexico, Ethiopia and other African countries. Representatives from our church serve in Latvia, China, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Africa. Disaster Relief Chainsaw and Construction teams have worked with every major hurricane that has hit the Lousiana and Texas coast over the past years. Crews are regularly called upon to repair churches and the homes of the needy. FBCA is designated by the State of Texas as a evacuee housing sight in case of coastal disasters.
In Ethiopia, we are active with children and family ministries as well as church starts and evangelism. The E-TEAM (East Texas Ethiopia Aid Mission) is a group of East Texas Churches that have joined together to work in Bantu, Ethiopia. There we have built a school that brings quality education to over 400 of the most needy children in the area. E-Team groups regularly travel to Bantu to provide a wide variety of ministries.
In Athens and Henderson county, FBCA provides the Helping Hand Children’s Clothing/Public School Uniform Ministry and Helping Hands Furniture Ministries as well as supports the Henderson County Crisis Center, Meals of Kindness, Family Peace Project, HELP Center, County Food Pantry, Athens Thrif Store, Labor of Love, Foster Friends for Foster Children and Prison Hospitality House. FBCA has a continuing relationship with PEP – Prison Entrepreneurship Program, Disciples Clinic of Athens, and has close working relationships with three Hispanic Baptist Churches in Athens. Medical, Dental and Optical ministries are a regular part of the care we give to some of the world’s most needy people.
I invite you to look closely at what the Lord is doing in our world today. Join us on missions for the cause of Christ.
